Planning....

Travelling for a year? How fantastic and something I've always wanted to do but....(then out come the excuses). I've been planning to do this for years and have therefore had a bit of time to think about it and be a bit prepared (i.e. not get too settled in one place, keep my universal sink plug and stretchy washing lines where I can see them as reminders etc) but Euans only had months to sort his stuff out and I've got to hand it to him for taking it all calmly on board.

We initially talked about traveling overland but the distances we intend to cover would mean it would take use much longer than a year so decided to go with OneWorldExplorer for tickets. Our experience with them (via BA) has been interesting. A word of advice to anyone who is thinking about using them. A) see if you can find an agent that will do the leg work for you for a small fee and B)never ever just take the first person in a call centre that you come across. We did and kinda paid for it. Eight weeks, countless hours (from Euan) and a few hissy fits (me) later, we finally have our flights confirmed in the right names, the right route and, we have to admit, remarkable value. We'll tell you if we still think that a few months in.

This map is our proposed route and it is entirely changeable within reason. We obviously need to do some long haul flights but the ground travel is entirely up to us.
